The former minister of trade Alan Kyerematen has said the most celebrated and innovative policy under the current government is the One District One Factor programme (1D1F) and not the Free SHS policy.
The 1D1F programme was launched by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government to change the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on import and export of raw material to one that is focused on manufacturing, value addition and export of processed goods.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based TV3 on Wednesday (27 September), Kyerematen said the conception of the 1D1F during his tenure was strategic.
“You know Ghanaians, we don’t even celebrate our own successes,” the failed presidential hopeful of the NPP said. “When I use to travel the world with President Akufo-Addo, in matured economy, the first thing they mention which they believe was innovative and something that Ghana should be proud of is the One District One Factory.”
“You are talking about the most powerful economies in the world, the first thing they talk about is not Free Senior High School (SHS) policy [but] One District One Factory,” he said.
