The Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Osei Assibey Antwi, has confirmed that the allowance for the month of June will be distributed on Monday 20, August 2023.

Mr Antwi also revealed that the outstanding payments spanning from January to June, as well as that of July, will be disbursed in the subsequent week.

Mr Antwi conveyed, "We have received the authorisation to address the arrears accumulated from January to June. Consequently, you will receive the pending payments for that period, and the following week, we will commence the process for the remaining payments."

In a parallel development, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has made an appeal to the government to implement a structured approach for the incremental adjustment of the national service allowance.

On Sunday, July 23, 2023, the management of the National Service Scheme (NSS) declared that they had obtained government approval for an increase in the monthly allowances for National Service Personnel.

The new allowance would rise from GHS559.04 to GHS715.57, with the adjustment retroactively applied from January 2023.

This decision comes after sustained protests and demands since the onset of the previous year for an enhancement in the allowance.
