The “Dampare Dirt”- Damning New Revelations Emerge

Fri, 8 Sep 2023 Source: manzekay

The secret video recording between three senior police officers on one hand, and the former Northern Regional Chairman of the Governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), on the other, continues to harm the contending forces in the unprecedented case.

Caught red-handed on tape, scandalized and interdicted, the beleaguered trio of the police looked badly bruised and their extrication seemingly unlikely following the release of a damning second video.

However, as more evidence from several other sources are gathered, the case is increasingly becoming a double-edged sword. New details allegedly justified the accusations against the Inspector General of Police, IGP.

The contrivance of the three police men caught on tape as plotting the ouster of the IGP had come under heavy shelling by at least known public activists, including security experts. Some pinned the faux pas entirely on those in the video and poured on them invectives as disgraceful, overly ambitious, grossly insubordinate, and almost succeeded in passing “judicial sentences” in the boiling court of public opinion.

But the despised have got a new lifeline for they have the stamp of a wide circle of corroborations, and whose account stokes the fire against the IGP. Mr Akuffo Dampare, the IGP, in the widening allegations against him was said to have indeed gagged the police service and pitched a centralized communications to a side he favours in his reportedly fractious setting.

The IGP is even further bruised by the figurative stiletto coming from other officers hauled before investigative bodies. Star witness and one of the conspirators, Bugri Naabu has made other confessions. The Ghana Report monitoring multiple lines of new evidence may crystalize them as follows:

The IGP is reported to be a master tactician when it comes to setting others up, and the case under review is no exception. That also seem to affirm the submission by Commissioner of Police, George Alex Mensah before Parliament’s committee of enquiry that the recording of their conversation was masterminded by the IGP.

The report indicated, the IGP is the “paymaster of Bugri Naabu’ who plotted with him to bait the three police officers and get their conversation recorded.

There is also some convergence on the perception of Bugri Naabu as a lobbyist who was part of those that got the police top job for the current IGP, in exchange for contracts. This then gave Bugri Naabu grounds to haul the three senior police officers to his “slaughter house” of grand trickery.

The case has set off the media to an unprecedented scale of muckraking journalism. They have been digging deeper as the characters in the case dig heels in.
