Ursula Owusu 'Fiercely Fights' Frema over NPP Running Mate

The Battle to have a female running mate of Akan extraction to partner Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is said to be on between two female Appointees of Akufo-Addo.

Reports suggest Communication Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare are locked in a “competition” over who is best fit for the job.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful is reportedly working very hard against her male competitors for the coveted slot while at the same time “eyeing” Frema Opare who has shown a keen interest in the slot.

Reports say Vice President Bawumia and his team are “currently focused on Saturday 26th August Superdelegates conference and the November 4th Congress for now”.

No serious discussion has been had on who becomes the running mate as all focus is on winning the flagbearership first.

The Chief of Staff Madam Frema Osei Opare and Ursula Owusu are surreptitious lobbying hard for consideration as Vice Presidential nominee of Bawumia using all means necessary.

Frema Opare, who is a first female Chief of Staff is also backing the Mahamudu Bawumia Campaign strongly and is hoping to be strongly considered as Number 2 should Dr. Bawumia be elected by delegates on November 4th 2023.

Last month, MyNewsGh.com reported how the Chief of Staff met some key interest groups with say on the matter to make a case of herself and has reportedly initiated underground activities to clinch the slot ahead of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and all others.

Critics of the Chief of Staff say it is time she retired with Akufo-Addo and “stay out of the game”. They say she is the reason the Akufo-Addo government is facing challenges as she has been the “most ineffective Chief of Staff since 1992”.

Her supporters however point to her background from the Ashanti Region and ability to raise funds to support Bawumia’s bid.
