The mother of Nigerian superstar Wizkid, Jane Balogun, laid to rest in Lagos, October, 2023. The burial ceremony was held at Ikoyi cemetery, and was attended by family, friends and fans of the singer.
Wizkid, who was visibly heartbroken, paid his final respects to his mother in a touching eulogy. He spoke about her love and support for him throughout his career, and how she had always believed in him.
“My mother was my biggest fan,” Wizkid said. “She always believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. She was my rock, and I’m going to miss her so much.”
Other speakers at the ceremony included Wizkid’s father, Ayo Balogun, and his manager, Sunday Are. They both spoke about Jane’s kindness and generosity, and how she had touched the lives of so many people.
After the ceremony, Wizkid led his family and friends in a procession to the gravesite. He placed a white rose on his mother’s coffin before it was lowered into the ground.
