Amanda Tei Martey, a 12-year-old class 4 student at Suhum Newtown Presby Basic School, was killed by a cargo vehicle on her way to dump garbage at 5 a.m. on Monday.
Just after the Suhum Overpass on the Accra to Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region, the horrific disaster occurred.
The girl died instantaneously as she crossed the street to dispose of the trash at a nearby dump.
The truck driver, whose identity is unknown, was driving a cargo truck with the registration number GN 126-18 from Ahafo-Goaso in the Ahafo Region to Accra when he ran into her. He was descending the Overpass to Accra.
According to the driver, who was traveling at top speed, he did not see the victim crossing the street because there were no street lighting on the overpass.
The police had to use a shovel to bundle the mutilated remains of the child into a polythene bag.
The cadaver has since been placed in the morgue of Suhum Hospital for preservation.
Currently, the suspect is in police custody and aiding with the investigation.
