The pastor has been arrested twice before in relation to the deaths of minors, in 2019 and on March 22, 2023. Each time, he was released on parole, and the court is still considering both cases.

A pastor was detained for ordering his congregation to fast to death.

According to reports, thirty-nine bodies have been discovered so far on land owned by Kenyan pastor Paul Makenzi, who was arrested for telling his adherents to starve to death.

John Kemboi, the sub-county police superintendent of Malindi, stated that additional shallow graves must be unearthed on the property of Makenzi, who was arrested on April 14, 2023 for cult ties.

The total number of fatalities is now 43, as four more people perished after being discovered famished at the Good News International Church last week.

In addition, the pastor has been implicated in the deaths of two children whose parents starved and strangled them "to please God."

Police have asked a judge for permission to detain Makenzi for an extended period of time as they continue to investigate the deaths of his followers.

A tip from the public prompted police to raid the pastor's Malindi property, where they discovered 15 malnourished individuals, four of whom later perished.

According to the adherents, they were starving on the pastor's orders in order to meet Jesus.

The police were informed that Makenzi's farm contained dozens of shallow graves, and excavating began on Friday, April 21.

Makenzi has been on hunger strike in police custody for the past four days.

The pastor has been arrested twice before in relation to the deaths of minors, in 2019 and on March 22, 2023. Each time, he was released on parole, and the court is still considering both cases.

Local politicians have pleaded with the court not to release him this time, citing the proliferation of sects in the Malindi region.
