Sebastian Sandaare, member of parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, has demanded a prompt investigation into the murder of two hunters in the Upper West Region.
During a routine patrol, the victims, who were returning from a hunting trip, allegedly came under fire from police officers.
According to reports, the pair had run out of gas and stopped to refuel when they encountered the police officers, who opened fire without evident provocation.
As a consequence, one hunter was shot in the arm and the other in the abdomen.
The unfortunate event reportedly occurred around 5 p.m.
The incident has left the town despondent, with numerous individuals demanding justice. The representative for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa is spearheading the charge for prompt action.
MP Sandaare condemned the actions of the officers, stating, "Local hunters were out seeking sustenance, but instead they were confronted with gunfire. Even more disturbing is the dearth of concern shown for the victims in the aftermath of the shooting. They were left unattended until they contacted members of their community to report this unfortunate incident.
He continued, "It is a deeply regrettable situation, and I implore the police administration, regional commander, Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Ministry of the Interior to intervene promptly and ensure that justice is served," he said on Joynews.
There have been recurring concerns over the use of excessive force by law enforcement officers over the years.
