Following the signing of a $6.7 million partnership agreement between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to improve the overall performance of the National Health Insurance System (NHIS) and increase the quality of healthcare services in Ghana, a one-day orientation on the implementation of the Agreement was held at the NHIA headquarters in Accra.

The orientation centered on the various terms of the agreement and included a discussion of both parties' responsibilities and expectations.

For the smooth implementation of the project, the financial management was exhaustively discussed, including reporting formats, monitoring and evaluation activities, and the development of work plans, among others.

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Virginia Palmer, along with the CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, his deputies; Mrs. Vivian Addo-Cobbiah, Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden, Mr. Francis Owusu, and the Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Abena Osei Asare, launched this new five-year partnership last month.

USAID is the leading U.S. government agency tasked with ending extreme global poverty and enabling resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential, whereas the NHIA is the leading Ghanaian government agency charged with providing access to healthcare and achieving Universal Health Coverage in Ghana.
