Accra Is Affected By Bawku's Tribal Conflict

Mon, 17 Apr 2023 Source: Island Reporters

Samira Abdul Rahman, a 38-year-old woman from Accra, who is still in shock over an armed attack on her house over the weekend by suspected thugs from one faction of the conflict, is the latest victim of the ever-escalating tribal conflict in Bawku in the Upper East Region. Other people and families are being attacked across the nation.

The thugs allegedly carried out their actions under the belief that Samira's father was providing weapons to support a different group in the ongoing battle in that region of the nation.

The victim and her family were fortunate to have left the country for a holiday in order to avoid the gang's wrath.

Sources close to Samira claim that her father, Abdul Rahman Iddriss, lives in Bawku but frequently travels to Accra for work.

The son of Samira's father, Abdul Rahman Iddris, was recently assassinated in Bawku by unidentified assailants as a result of the opposing side reportedly gaining wind that he was receiving financial support from his daughter and son.

They therefore planned the attack on Samira by transporting mercenaries from Bawku to Accra to "silence" Samira with highly lethal weaponry.

The gang's plans, however, were foiled when they broke into Samira's marital house, where she lives with her husband and children, only to discover that everyone was gone because of a brief vacation outside of Ghana.

To the neighbors who were awakened by the loud chanting in the middle of the night, the gang still made their presence known and made it obvious what their purpose was. They also destroyed a significant amount of household goods during the raid.

Evidently, Samira has been the object of threats before. She once narrowly avoided dying in her previous home in Tema, also in the Greater Accra Region, which prompted her to move to her new residence in Achimota, an Accra suburb.

Not only that. Samira and the rest of the family in Bawku continue to live in fear since the father, Abdul Rahman Iddriss, has vanished, no one has heard from him, and all searches for him have so far come up empty-handed. He may have been approached by the thugs, who may have then slain him and discarded his body somewhere.
