Alan Withdrawal: NPP has dented its image – Prof Kobby Mensah

Kobby Mensah, a professor at the University of Ghana, has criticized the New Political Party's (NPP) acts and processes at the August 26 Super Delegates' Conference.

On September 6, Prof Mensah agreed that all machinery and procedures at the Super Delegates' Conference would be in favor of one candidate, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who subsequently received the majority of votes.

"There was a clear whipping of people in one direction, particularly in the North East Constituency, where all 28 delegates voted for Dr Bawumia." "And that is precisely what all of the candidates spoke out against," he remarked.

According to the political marketing expert, the ruling party's image has suffered.

He maintains that a political party that was once focused on the group or the majority has evolved away from its primary beliefs, which initially drew more supporters, and toward personalities.

"NPP's image has suffered as a result of the approach used." For what they have done, the party has harmed its reputation by professing to be a due process party.

"The NPP has shifted away from being the admired collective party that we used to know them for."

He emphasized that the NPP brand is eroding as a result of the strategy they took at their Super Delegates Conference.

According to the Professor, prior to the exercise, nine of the ten applicants were opposed to the conference's decentralization and preferred that it be conducted at a single location.

However, the majority of nine were ignored in order for only one person's opinion to be considered, he noted.

"It is unfortunate that the NPP party, which previously complained about election structural issues, is repeating such actions."

"The super delegates election, which was supposed to select five candidates without identifying who came first or second to take them to the National Delegates Conference on November 4 ended with people being labeled first, clearly indicating that the November 4 elections will be influenced."

Meanwhile, the party's Presidential Election Committee has stated that the many issues voiced by flagbearer aspirants during voting are being investigated and that the report will be made available to everybody.
