One of the top gold mining firms in the world, AngloGold Ashanti, has renewed its contract with Veolia Ghana Limited to clean the water at its Obuasi gold mine in Ghana.

Veolia Ghana Limited is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti.

All water treatment facilities for the open-cut and underground mines in Obuasi will continue to be run and maintained by Veolia, a leader in water and waste management on a global scale.

Six facilities, comprising four wastewater treatment plants and two drinking water treatment plants, are used at AngloGold Ashanti's Obuasi mine to guarantee that the treated water and discharge quality satisfy the necessary criteria.

Veolia produced over 33.5 million cubic meters of water throughout the course of the contract, of which about 7 million cubic meters were used to provide drinking water for the site and adjacent areas.

Executive Vice President for Africa and the Middle East at Veolia, Philippe Bourdeaux, underscored the company's dedication to helping industrial firms like AngloGold Ashanti handle pressing issues, particularly those related to managing water as a limited and endangered resource.

In order to manage water as a limited and endangered resource, Veolia will continue to make its know-how available to AngloGold Ashanti and the mining industry.

The Obuasi gold mine is positioned to retain its commitment to sustainable water management, complying to environmental requirements while continuing to enhance productivity and growth in the mining industry thanks to the renewed cooperation between AngloGold Ashanti and Veolia.
