Being in jail felt like home; it was like a vacation – Shatta Wale talks about his time in Ankaful Prison

Shatta Wale, a Ghanaian dancehall artist, has revealed that his time spent behind cells felt like home and like a vacation.

When asked if his time in prison has humbled him in any way, the prominent musician stated that there is nothing comparable and added that the prison "felt like home."

"In Ghana, we do not make sacrifices to aid the nation. "I felt at home in prison," he revealed.

Speaking to Giovanni Caleb on Showbiz 360, which airs on TV3, the self-proclaimed dancehall King revealed that the cell was composed of admirers who had been longing to see him and, as a result, treated him as royalty.

"There were quite a few individuals there, some of whom had waited over 30 years to see Shatta Wale. Some bring me water, while others offer me their sustenance. "I received the same treatment in the cells as I did on the streets," he disclosed.

According to him, the incident had no impact on his career because he was able to produce more successes after his release.

"It wasn't as if they sent me to a place to suffer; it was more like a vacation. Nobody goes to prison and returns in the proper frame of mind, but I returned and released 'On God,' 'JJC,' and a great deal more,' he stated.

Charles Nii Armah Mensah, also known as Shatta Wale, was sentenced to one week of detention at the Ankaful Medium prison in the Central Region.

The police arrested him after he simulated being shot with the assistance of his PR representative Nana Dope and another person known as Gangee.
