The Eastern Regional Police Command is reportedly investigating a carpenter named Alex Tenge for allegedly killing his stepmother and grandfather after consuming wee-laced with Sobolo.
Over the weekend, the suspect carried out the horrible murder in Okorase, close to Koforidua, in the Akuapem North Municipality in Eastern Region.
He is said to have butchered his stepmother Rita Agbabli Tenge, 40, for raising the alarm by beheading and chopping up his grandfather Tenge Sodzado, who was about 90 years old.
It is difficult to determine what motivated him to do such a crime.
Four children—two boys and two girls—were left behind by the late mother Rita Tenge. The oldest of the four is now 14 years old, and the youngest is just nine months old.
The family is devastated by the occurrence, according to the widower who is also the son of the old man Francis Tenge who passed away.
He clarified this to Starr FM: “I left my wife and father home Thursday morning to my hometown, I arrived at 9:30 pm. Then I had a call from my wife that Alex (suspect) had gone to a nearby house and attempted to strangle the girl in the house so the father was going to report at the police station”.
According to him, “I tried calling back for an update on the police case but my wife didn’t respond to the phone calls. I was later told that my son Alex has killed my wife and father”.
“It was very difficult for me, so I set off the next day to come home. Now I need psychological help, I need your prayers and support. My son has never misbehaved like that. I don’t know what came to him. I am told he informed police that someone gave him sobolo” he said while in tears.
The suspect is being held by police to aid in the investigation while the remains have been sent to the mortuary at Eastern Regional Hospital for an autopsy.
