Ernest Yaw Anim Wins The Kumawu NPP Primary Election

Ernest Yaw Anim has accumulated 195 ballots to become the NPP's parliamentary candidate in the upcoming by-election.

He was vigorously challenged by Nana Ama Serwaa, who received 181 ballots as the runner-up.

The purpose of the New Patriotic Party primary on April 23, 2023, was to find a replacement for the defunct representative Philip Basoah, who passed away last month.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled a by-election for Tuesday, May 23, in accordance with a constitutional provision triggered by the vacancy.

Even though constituents and chiefs have complained vehemently about the neglect of their highways, the NPP is assured of victory in the upcoming election because the Ashanti region has served as its "world bank."

A party leader once boasted of the region's extreme fealty to the party by implying that a goat wearing NPP colors would win an election handily in the region.

Dr. Kwame Appiah Kubi, Dr. Aboagye Dacosta, Nana Ama Serwaa, Ernest Yaw Anim, and Osei-Hwereh Bempah were the five contestants.

Ernest Yaw Anim received 195 votes, Nana Ama Serwaa 181 votes, Dr. Appiah Kubi 10 votes, Dr. Aboagye Dacosta 27 votes, and Osei Bempah received 5 votes with 1 rejected ballot.

The opposition National Democratic Congress, whose prospects of winning the election are minimal, has already selected a candidate without holding a primary.
