Flagbearer aspirants must unite after primaries – NPP Constituency Chairman

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Cape Coast North Constituency in the Central Region has admonished the ten candidates for the impending Special Delegates Conference to conduct themselves with decorum and support the winners.

Mr. Stephen Kojo Arhin stated that there are too many candidates vying for the No. 1 position in the NPP, but that post-election unity will help them win the 2024 election.

In an interview with Onua FM in Cape Coast, the chairman discussed the NPP's special delegates congress on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

"Ten hopefuls. I find it difficult because there are too many of them. We should recall the seventeen candidates in 2007 who contributed to our loss," the chairman added.

Mr. Kojo Arhin stated, "They [aspirants] should have been contacted so that three or four have contested on the party's website."

This would have reduced the cost of the election, but they are all determined to run. All ten are in the party, and we will access them on Saturday; however, if you lose, I advise you not to sleep. If this occurs, it indicates that you came with a purpose. "In order to break the 8, you must join and support the winner," the chairman explained.

"Breaking the Eight"

The Chairman stated, "The NPP will 'break the 8' as a result of hard effort, because what we went through has never occurred before. We've been through this before in 1983, so we know we'll get through it, but breaking the 8 is no laughing matter."

"What transpired in the 2020 parliamentary election was not good; this is why there has been no government reshuffle; therefore, I am urging the NPP aspirants to tell us what they can do to reclaim their various lost seats in the 2020 election."

"Some [MPs] are enticed to the House of Representatives by perks. As soon as they triumph, they forget the party and those who voted for them.

orphaned residents of Cape Coast North

Mr. Kofi Arhin stated that Cape Coast North is an isolated district, and nothing will sway his resolve to wrest control of it from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 election.

"I am seeking the office, and nothing will alter that. I will ensure that we find a candidate who can assist us win the seat. We will choose a candidate capable of winning the 2024 election. We shouldn't campaign for the sake of campaigning. Someone who can make a sacrifice for the gathering is required. A person who will assist the members. One who will propose sound policies."

Mr. Arhin clarified that the NDC member currently occupying the seat has accomplished nothing for the constituency.

"The representative does nothing for this district. Cape Coast North is unproductive. We are unable to see anything. There is no development taking place, but because we [NPP] had difficulties in 2020, he received it on a silver platter."
