The Deputy National Imam of Ahlussuna Wal Jama, Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed, has rejected suggestions that Muslims should contemplate using birds for this year's Eid-Ul-Adha celebration.
Sheikh Mohammed stated that birds are not among the animals commanded for sacrifice by Allah.
Following the country's Anthrax outbreak, the proposition for an alternative animal sacrifice for Eid had become timely. This action is intended to save lives and stop the spread of the disease.
Sheikh Mohammed told GBCNEWS in Accra that the only acceptable sacrifices for Eid al-Adha are goats, camels, cows, and sheep; therefore, birds cannot be considered under any circumstances.
"Poultry is not one of the animals Allah commanded us to sacrifice. Allah prescribed goats, camels, cows, and sheep as domesticated animals.
He stated that they have been educated to ensure that the animals they sacrifice are healthy.
