The crisis surrounding the National Working Committee (NWC) zoning template for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, according to news that was published by the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper Online this morning, reportedly took a dramatic turn at the weekend. The G6, which is the coalition of disgruntled candidates for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, reportedly rejected overtures from emissaries.

A former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress reportedly received instructions to meet with the candidates. He was to be accompanied by another party chieftain from the South-West geopolitical zone,  as the team was expected to meet with the trio of Senator Abdul Aziz Yari, Senator Orji Kalu and Senator Sani Musa, who are the aspirants for the Senate presidency, vying to contest against Senator Godswill Akpabio.

It was reported that a source close to the G-6, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune in confidence, and under the condition of anonymity, claimed that the G-6, was not happy that the president-elect was sending emissaries to them, despite the fact that assurances from his associates, and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, that he (Tinubu) would meet with the aggrieved aspirants upon his return to the country.

The source said, “G6 are angry that people Tinubu is sending to them are from a particular section of of the country and they are adamant on meeting with Tinubu and the leadership of the party. The leadership of the National Assembly, is a national affair, and not about the interest of the South-West geopolitical zone alone. It appears that our leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, still defers to Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who continues to tell him that our agitation is a mere storm in a tea cup."
