Martin Amidu: New Chief Justice - Akufo-Addo's Final Three Stops Before the 2024 Elections

Tue, 2 May 2023 Source: Island Reporters

Nana Akufo-Addo's mode of operation in the exercise of the constitutional powers vested in him to choose crucial and sensitive constitutional officers for the implementation of the separation of powers doctrine has always been guided by his personal political self-interest as opposed to the sovereign national interest of the citizens of Ghana. The selection of a new Chief Justice to succeed Mr.

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo satisfies the statutory requirements to be nominated as Chief Justice, despite the fact that she is neither the most senior nor the most erudite in terms of her output of renowned Supreme Court decisions.

The minority in Parliament will have a difficult time opposing her nomination when it is presented to them on or after 2 May 2023, following the rubber stamp endorsement of the Council of State.

The nomination of an individual from the Central Region for the position of Chief Justices provides grounds for urging the delegates to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential election primaries on November 4, 2023, not to vote for the feared and unreliable Kennedy Agyapong from the same region.

Nana Akufo-Addo's calculating mindset is to eradicate a feared and threatening Central Region candidate with a high likelihood of winning the presidential primary election.

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is the favored racial-mathematical candidate for Chief Justice.

Justice Avril Lovelace-Johnson (Mrs. Anin-Yeboah, the former spouse of the retiring Chief Justice) from the Central Region enrolled with number 2052 on 2 October 1987 as Mrs.

In addition to being from the Central Region, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is the niece of the late Major (Retired) Sam Acquah.

Chief Justice Martin Amidu has tagged the 2024 general elections.
