Claims that the approaching by-election in Assin North is the reason roads in that area are being repaired have been refuted by a member of the Presidential Staff named Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

He claims that there were active road work in the region well in advance of the day that the by-election was scheduled to take place.

"There are 112 projects that have been initiated, with some of them going on in including 17 roads," he said on the Key Points program that was broadcast on TV3 on Saturday, June 3.

He emphasized that "...The roads have already started already prior to the by-election."

After the date of the by-election was announced, some people in the Assin North Constituency in the Central Region noticed that some earth-moving equipment had been moved into the area.

On Wednesday, May 31, the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) made the announcement that the much-anticipated by-election in the Constituency will take place on Tuesday, June 27. This day has been circled in voters' calendars for quite some time.

On Thursday, June 1, it was observed that some of the roads in the Constituency were undergoing restoration.

According to a report by Media General's Thomas Cann, however, citizens allege that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could tell them any number of "lies" and they still wouldn't vote for them.

The fact that the by-election brought about the restoration of the roadways was a positive development for many people, including others.

One person stated, "We are happy, because we need development, and if it is coming because of the by-election, then we are happy."
