National Security warns against misuse of arms

The National Security has issued a warning that the nation's peace and security are at risk from the abuse of weapons.

As part of the "See Something, Say Something" program, the warning was issued.

The abuse of weapons poses a threat to our peace and security, according to a message from the Ministry of National Security. In Ghana, say "No" to illegal weaponry. If you see something, say something.

A citizen awareness program to prevent terrorist attacks was started by the Ministry of National Security last year.

The "See something, say something" campaign exhorts people to be watchful of the antics of dubious characters and alert security organizations to such antics and persons.

The ministry's border counterterrorism plan included the launch. aimed at sensitising the public to terrorism threats and encouraging the citizenry to collaborate with state security agencies to reduce the threat of terrorism in the country.

As part of the campaign, a toll-free number — 999 — has been provided for citizens to swiftly report suspicious activities to state security authorities or use the emergency contacts and social media platforms of the Ghana Police Service to draw the attention of state agencies to unusual activities within their communities.

Where mobile connectivity is a challenge, locals are to report suspicious activities to their local police, traditional leaders, opinion leaders, heads of faith-based organisations and leaders of political parties who could expedite action to arrest any threat of terrorism attack situation.
