No Ghanaian player has made more sacrifices than me – Asamoah Gyan

Because of the personal sacrifices he has made for the benefit of the national team, Asamoah Gyan believes that he is deserving of the highest level of respect.

Gyan has undeniably made an everlasting impression on Ghanaian football, as evidenced by his remarkable record of 51 goals scored in 109 total matches.

After making his first appearance in 2003 as a teenager, Gyan's unwavering dedication and drive for success spurred him to become an integral player for Ghana, which finally earned him the captain's armband.

One of his most important accomplishments was captaining the Ghana team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which was held in Brazil. There, he engraved his name in history as Africa's all-time best scorer in the renowned competition, with a total of six goals scored over the course of his career at the World Cup.

However, Gyan’s national team path has not been without hurdles, as he has faced severe criticism for critical blunders, particularly his penalty miss that cost Ghana a position in the semi-final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ghana had the opportunity to make history by becoming the first African nation to reach the final four of a World Cup tournament since Morocco did so in the World Cup held in Qatar four years ago.

During a recent interview on Asempa FM, Gyan provided his take on the matter, stating, "I always believe that there are no players in Ghana's history who have made more sacrifices than me. No one appears to be playing here. Everyone is aware of it, including those working at the GFA. When you talk about making sacrifices, I am well aware of what you are referring to. The Black Stars [Ghana’s national squad] was always on my heart. I made sure I did everything to contribute whenever I represented the national team.”

While all is going on, the 37-year-old striker who used to play for Sunderland and Al Ain swears that his career is not gone, despite the fact that he has not been actively playing for more than two years. During this period, he has been concentrating on punditry and scouting players; nonetheless, he is committed to making a comeback in the near future.
