No one betrayed Alan – Majority Leader

Sun, 3 Sep 2023 Source: Island Reporters

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, leader of the majority and minister of parliamentary affairs, has described as imprudent and bigoted certain remarks made by Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen's supporters.

By voting for Dr. Mahamudu Baumia, according to Mr. Kyerematen's supporters, delegates from the Ashanti Region betrayed one of their own.

Alan Kyerematen was not the only Asante man to run in the recently concluded national special delegates congress, according to the member of parliament for Suame.

According to him, such statements do not bode well for the party's cohesion, and whoever wins the contest for president in 2024 will need the support of other candidates in order to win the country's general election.

He stated that Dr. Kofi Konadu, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and others are all from the Ashanti Region, and that no one individual should be singled out.

He noted that a candidate's supporters alone cannot guarantee the party's victory in the 2024 general election.

He stated that all candidates and their supporters are required for the 2024 general election.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu believed that the former Minister of Trade is a party loyalist and that no one can rule him out before the November election.

He refuted media reports that NPP delegates in Ashanti Region betrayed Alan Kyerematen at the recently concluded special delegates' conference.

According to him, the voting and electoral behavior of Ashanti Region delegates demonstrates a desire to support worthy causes.

They are not discriminatory. They are loyal individuals who evaluate situations without regard to tribal distinctions."
