Our people are shy of the language – Fameye shares why he believes Ghanaians don’t enjoy Hi-life music

Ghanaian Fameye Peter, a hi-life musician, has mirrored the thoughts of fellow singer Abiana over Ghanaians' dislike to adopting native languages such as Twi in their daily activities.

He voiced his feelings. Earlier, Abiana, with whom Fameye has a new hit track, Far Away, underscored the unpleasant reality that, while Ghana's cultural pearls are acclaimed globally, there is still a sense that Highlife is underappreciated.

"They were kind of looking down on highlife. "They're still doing it," she revealed.

According to the "Susuka" singer, Ghanaian musicians typically avoid embracing their roots in their music, instead opting for languages considered as more sophisticated, like as English, due to how listeners react to local songs.

"Our folks are intimidated by the language. "When I sit here and speak Twi, someone at home will think Peter [referring to himself] can't speak English," he revealed.

Fameye also provided personal tales about how language influences artistic expression as well as human ties.

"If I want to express myself better, I'll speak only Twi because I'm Ghanaian." "When I'm proposing to a girl, I speak twi because that's how I can do it well," he explained.

When Berla Mundi asked if he courted his partner and baby mother in 'Akan vernacular,' the conversation took an interesting turn.

He disclosed in his response that he spoke Fanti to her because she is also a member of the tribe.

"For example, when I first started talking to my girl, I used Fante to express my feelings," he explained.
