On Friday, June 23, the police in Lagos apprehended a 49-year-old woman for allegedly attempting to steal a newborn from a hospital in the Ojokoro region of the state.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin of the state police command stated that the Ojokoro police Division received information that the suspect entered the hospital posing as a patient and abducted the infant.
"She entered the female ward carrying a newborn boy while the mother, who had just undergone surgery, was fast slumber.
Another patient observed the suspect's rapid movement with the infant in her arms, notified hospital authorities, and the suspect was arrested.
Upon questioning, it was determined that the suspect was from Oyo State. "The suspect confessed that one Alfa hired her to procure a one-day-old infant for a money ritual," he said.
According to Hundeyin, further investigation revealed that this was the suspect's second incident of child abduction.
The suspect will be charged with a crime as soon as the investigation is concluded, while the infant has been returned to the mother.
