Police rescind decision to interdict three over leaked IGP audio

The Ghana Police Service has reversed its earlier decision to interdict three senior officers implicated in a leaked audio recording purportedly detailing a conspiracy to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The Service announced on Thursday, September 7 the interdiction of Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah, Superintendents Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and George Lysander Asare for their involvement in the aforementioned plot.

The three have already testified before a bipartisan parliamentary investigation committee established by the Speaker to investigate, among other things, the authenticity of the audio recording.

However, according to a statement issued late Thursday night, the decision to interdict the three could compromise the ongoing investigation.

"In order not to compromise the ongoing investigation, the Police Administration has suspended their interdiction," according to a statement signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, director of public affairs.

However, it emphasized that the Service will "begin disciplinary proceedings against them upon completion of the ongoing investigation by Congress."
