The Ministry of Roads and Highways (MRH) has stated that it has had its attention drawn to concerns that have been expressed by members of the general public as well as certain segments of the media regarding potholes that have appeared on various roads across the nation as a direct result of recent heavy rains.

According to the Ministry, a generally large amount of work is being done to expand the nation's road network and to execute normal and periodic maintenance on existing roads. In addition, the Ministry states that new roads are being constructed.

According to a statement, "The rainy season always causes some deterioration to some old roads," which is why there is an emergency maintenance program in place at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

In addition, it stated that "The Ministry wishes to reassure the public that measures are being put in place to address critical sections of roads which have become bad throughout the country upon the onset of rains."

For example, in Accra, there are now ongoing maintenance works at the following locations: Teshie Tsui Bleoo Road and Fertilizer Road.

It is imperative that motorists and members of the general public adhere to the traffic management and safety measures that have been implemented in and around the areas where these repairs are being carried out.

"The Ministry wishes to reiterate its commitment to providing a well-maintained road infrastructure that is responsive to the needs of Ghanaians," the statement emphasized.
