Suspect Involved In Meek Mill's iPhone Theft Arrested Again

Fri, 30 Jun 2023 Source: Island Reporters

Nuhu Sulley, a 33-year-old scrap dealer who was granted bail of GHc50,000 by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing an iPhone belonging to an American rapper, has been apprehended for a second iPhone theft.

Sulley, who was granted bail five months ago for stealing Meek Mills' mobile phone, is in police custody for stealing a phone from a medical officer at Madina valued at GHC4,000.

When the complainant attempted to board a commercial vehicle from Madina to Oyibi, it is alleged that the defendant stole the medical officer's phone.

Junior, Sulley's alleged accomplice, is reportedly at large.

Sulley has pled not guilty to charges of theft and conspiracy to steal.

Mrs. Sedinam Awo Balokah presides over the court that has granted Sulley parole in the amount of GHC 100,000 with three sureties, one of whom must be justified.

It is anticipated that he will reappear on July 20 as police search for his accomplice.

An Attorney from the Attorney General's Office opposed the granting of bail to Sulley, arguing that he was the same individual who appeared before an Accra Circuit Court last December on charges of phone theft against American Wrapper Meek Mills at Independence Square during the Afro nation concert.

According to state prosecutors, Sulley posed a flight risk and was likely to perpetrate a similar crime if granted bail.

In Sulley's bail application, Defense Counsel characterized him as a law-abiding citizen who had never been in trouble with the law and a tranquil member of society.

According to his attorney, Sulley has individuals willing to serve as sureties.

According to the prosecution, the complainant is a Clinical Physician and an Accra, Oyibi resident.

It stated that Sulley resided in Madina and was unemployed. Junior, Sulley's accomplice, is on the run.

The prosecution asserts that on March 10, 2023, at approximately 2100 hours, the complainant was boarding a car from Madina to Oyibi when he felt a hand in the pocket where he kept his Huawei mobile phone, which was worth GHC4,000.

It was stated that by the time the complainant could reach the hand in his pocket, the individual had fled.

The prosecution claimed that the complainant witnessed Sulley fleeing with the phone.

It was stated that when the complainant questioned some witnesses at the scene, he was told that the accused was a "loading boy" and that the scene was where he plied his trade.

According to the prosecution, Sulley reappeared the following day and was arrested.

It was stated that Sulley resisted arrest and raised an alarm, attracting approximately 20 individuals who attempted to rescue him.

The complainant and a witness in the case were injured as a result.

According to the prosecution, the Police and the local assembly member were able to bring the situation under control.

According to Sulley's caution statement, he denied snatching the phone and implicated Junior, his accomplice, as the thief.

Sulley continued by stating that he pursued Junior and took the phone from him.

According to the prosecution, Sulley and Junior gave the complainant's mobile phone to someone to decode on their behalf.

According to the prosecution, Sulley indicated where the phone was taken, and it was subsequently recovered.

The prosecution stated that an investigation is ongoing.
