In what is believed to be a first for Kenya's Parliament, two elected representatives are to marry.

Eric wa Mumbi, Member of Parliament for Mathira, and Betty Maina, Woman Representative for Murang'a, are currently residing together but have decided to formalize their relationship.

Supposedly, Cupid's projectile struck the couple during the arduous August 2022 General Election campaigns.

The ceremony is imminent, and the two politicians are preparing for a "bride price" discussion.

The Vice President will head the men's delegation, while an MP will represent Ms. Maina's delegation as host.

Mr. Wa Mumbi was smitten when he encountered Ms. Maina in 2021, declaring, "I discovered that she had everything I desired in a wife."

Additionally, Ms. Maina had two children from a prior marriage that terminated in divorce. She maintains a friendly relationship with her ex-husband, stating that she will always be there to defend and support him.

Mr. Wa Mumbi has had a more difficult experience. In 2015, he wed and the couple was graced with two sons.

Nevertheless, tragedy struck when her body was discovered in a dam.Mr. Wa Mumbi was interrogated during the investigation, which ultimately came to a close.

The couple's relationship is all the more remarkable in light of the difficulties they have both encountered in previous relationships.

Nonetheless, according to a former member of parliament, both politicians possess "raw courage as they pursue their goals with ruthless tenacity." He added that their shared desire and concentration make them a "classic example of inspiration and concentration."
