Use Your Influence To Highlight Dried-Up Dam Challenges In The North - Northerners Told

Tue, 25 Apr 2023 Source: Island Reporters

Lawyer Nana Yaw Osei, a former member of the ruling New Patriotic Party's (NPP) National Disciplinary Council and a private legal practitioner, is urging influential people of Northern descent to speak out about the problems with the numerous dams in the region.

The purpose of the dugout dams found in communities is to provide farmers with year-round access to water, thereby enhancing agricultural activities and sustaining employment and food security.

Over the years, the commitment to sustaining a sustainable way of life in the north has been purely rhetorical, with no actual progress on the ground.

One can mention recent NPP initiatives such as one village, one dam and the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SAD) saga from the previous NDC administration.

After visiting the Upper East, the lawyer Nana Yaw Osei believes northerners must be seen as champions for their own problems in order to receive the necessary attention and redress.

He believes this will aid in the fight against food scarcity, particularly once the problems with the various dams are resolved.

"As a people, we would have no reason to complain about food scarcity if our leaders committed to revitalizing these dams for the benefit of farmers in the aforementioned communities"

"Especially those from these regions must be heard/seen calling attention to these issues. This will aid in food production, employment creation, and poverty reduction.
