The King of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abubakari, has advised the controversial presidential contender from the ruling New Patriotic Party, Kennedy Agyapong, to refrain from making statements that promote animosity towards individuals of Northern heritage. Ya-Na emphasized that such behavior by politicians serves to depict Northerners as inferior citizens. This counsel was offered during Agyapong's visit to the Gbewaa palace to inform the King of his presence in Dagbon. The Ya-Na further mentioned that he had heard Agyapong suggest that a victory for Bawumia would imply that the 2024 elections would be centered around Northerners, considering it an unfortunate remark. He urged Agyapong to avoid such remarks and to focus on campaigning based on pertinent issues. The Ya-Na also stressed the importance of being prepared to support whomever the party selects. In response, Kennedy Agyapong pledged to conduct a campaign free from tribalism. He additionally stated, "In 2020, I pledged a V8 Land-Cruiser to the Ya-Na. Regrettably, I have not been able to fulfill that promise. Today, I am here to present a pickup to the Ya-Na in order to honor the commitment I made to him during the 2020 election." The presidential hopeful is in the region to seek the backing of party delegates in anticipation of the critical November 4 elections.
