The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Oil Palm Development Company(GOPDC) , kwae Estate in the Kwaebibiriem municipality of the Eastern Region, Mr.Shetty Gangadhar has stated that the next uprising in Africa is going to be agribusiness as population keeps rising and the economy gets more challenging.
But the worse aspect of the situation is that land system in Ghana is incredibly challenging due to unavailability and threat of galamsey in most productive areas including the eastern region.
Mr.Shetty , was speaking at a training workshop held for Small Holder and Out Grower Oil Palm Farmers around Kwaebibiriem, Denkyembour and Ofoase -Ayirebi Districts on alternative livelihood agribusiness including snail farming, vegetable and short term crops that will complement their income when fruits is out of season.
The farmers were also oriented on safe and right use of agro-chemicals on crops, self medication, drug abuse, records keeping,environment protection, use of PPE's etc.
Mr.Francis Ohipeni, Out Grower manager, GOPDC explained more about the training calling on the youths to embrace the project and stop stealing palm fruits from peoples farm due to poverty.He stressed the act is alarming since the price of fruits is doing very well.
Nevertheless, some farmers shared their challenges and appreciation with journalist.
