Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Eastern region has within a period of two months; from 11th July to 11th September, scheduled special exercise dubed "Operation Zero" to bring sanity between customers and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
By this operation, the Eastern Regional Manager, Ing. Mrs Sariel Adobea Etwire, said the company is set to go to all houses where ECG metres are fixed to check the efficacy of all the metres.
They would disconnect all illegal connections, they would change all defective metres and issue new metres to the customers who have applied for such services.
She stated that, the issuing of new metres would require the customer to show their Ghana card, digital address and a picture of the metre in use.
She added that, people who have used defective metres over a period, would be given flat rate to pay in order to recover electric power they have used within the period of time.
She further submitted that, all other customers whose metres are to be changed would also be required to pay off charges recorded on the metres hence the term, "Operation Zero".
Ing Mrs Sariel Etwire spoke about the new 'Cash Less' system which is now in use for the purchase of electric power and said the "Cash Less" transaction for acquisition of electric power has come to stay.
She described it as a very simple digital operation.
She mentioned some of the advantages of the system including acquisition of power from the comfort of homes, offices or wherever one might be and irrespective of the time or weather condition.
The Regional Manager further explained that, from personal smartphones, the customers can read all their transactions with ECG including their usage and consumption of power, payments made and balance of their account.
Ing Mrs Sariel Etwire therefore advised all customers to download the ECG application and use *226# as the code to purchase electricity power.
She continued that, to achieve the objective of the company, they have constituted a number of teams from the Regional Office who are on the move to all localities where ECG metres have been installed.
According to Ing. Seriel Adobea Etwire, reports from the field has it that, fraudsters are out there demanding money from unsuspecting customers with promises to install new electricty metres for them.
She subsequently cautioned people to be circumspect in their dealing with whoever comes to discuss issues pertaining to electricity power with them.
She advised all to ignore any form of transaction in the name of ECG and call directly at their offices for solution to all problems pertaining to new metres, change of metres, billing etcetera.
She said they are ready to receive and serve all customers to their satisfaction.
