ROAD SAFETY WEEK CELEBRATION: DRIVERS ADVICE TO KEEP FOGLAMP TO AVOID ROAD ACCIDENTS

Road safety week is as annual event that is celebrated in third week of very November and climax on Sunday to remember victims who died from road accident across the globe.




In relation to this year's celebration, western north regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department MTTD Commander of the ghana police service , DSP Juliana Forson speaking to the media has advised drivers to always put their foglamp on until daybreak to avoid accident.

She said some of the measures been put in place to celebrate the week is to organize GPRTU drivers, Pragyia and other motor riders to give them education concerning road safety so as to return from their journey safely.

DSP Juliana Forson revealed that before daybreak the weather is full of dew that makes visibility difficult, therefore it's important to keep the light on and reduce speed whiles approaching the rush hour during Christmas festive season.

MTTD Commander DSP Juliana Forson disclosed that initially western north was far in terms of road accident until recently that some of it could be as a result of unwillingness among drivers to obey road safety regulations by taking alcohol and other substances to drive.

Mr Victor kojo Bilson Western North regional Head of National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) on his part mentioned that, the theme for this year's road safety week and Most importantly road accident victims Sunday to remember those who had perished in accident is JUSTICE.


Meaning the law will dealt with anyone found guilty of talking alcohol, drugs to drive to serve as deterrent to others.

In accordance to road accident within the western north region, Mr Victor said it is very pathetic that as new region always record higher rate of road accident whiles the region was ranked 7th position out of the 16 regions in the country in connection to those died and injured in road accident.

Mr Victor kojo Bilson emphasized that all road users should remember that, the LI 2180 and the road traffic act are still in existences, therefore in collaboration with MTTD will not wait till accident happened but they will keep on advocating and unfortunately, if it accident occurs the law will dealt with it accordingly particularly as we heading to Christmas.

According to Mr Victor, the western north regional national road safety authority NRSA has planned to meet all drivers and riders on Wednesday and Thursday respectively as part of the road safety week to advise them to be more careful on the road.
