The Weija Dam spillage leads to flood and caused disaster was cause by the Ghana Water Company Authorities and I can boldly hits my chest and say it, they caused it because they waited till a point of time that the Dam cannot hold the heavy weight water anymore and they opened the spillway unexpected time and also they opened the spillway more than the usual average level, so this leads to the flood that occurred on the 4th October 2022 at Weija and its communities said by Nii Daninyinase I.

The Dzaasetse of Weija is a retired worker at the Ghana Water Company at Weija Dam, he worked with the team for about 20 to 30 years. So he said he really know everything concerning the Weija Dam that is why directly pointing fingers on the authorities for being the cause of the flood.

Many homes was damaged by the flood and this was said that, it was the highest in the history of the dam with over 500 people displaced with the rescue team, it noted that assessment of the situation was on going as it gets bad by the day but added that the NADMO operation team, 48 Engineers, the Ghana police/Marine police personnel’s were all on the field assisting in rescuing those trap in their various homes to a safe destinations.

The Chief listed the affected communities such as Weija, Adakope, Oblogo,Tetegu, Ashbread, Sampa Valley, Choice, White Cross, Kingshasha enclave in additionally Municipalities that affected in the region were the Weija-Gbawe, Ga South and the Ga West Municipal Assemblies.

Nii Daninyinase sends a strong warning to the Ghana water authorities and the Dam management team to be very extra careful this time around and make sure that this unforgettable incidents will not happen again and also advised them to make sure they send information across Weija and its surrounding communities to let the citizens be aware before they can open the spillway gates for water passage.

He explained that mostly the Dam management only writes a letter to the traditional council but Weija is a very huge electoral area that only leter cannot reach to an individual citizen, and even the date that was written in the letter was not the actual date that they spillway the Dam.

So he urged the authorities to make sure after they send a letter to the head traditional council, they should make sure they authorises information van across all the various communities for them to be aware and the most important thing is that they should make sure the date that will be given to the people should be accurate and standard.

The Traditional Leader also spoke about a compensation that was supposed to come to the rightful traditional council didn't get to them but rather gave the compensation to the wrong people, so him and his elders are asking the government and the Dam management to make sure they pay them their compensation money or else they will here from them.
