WEST AKIM MCE ADVISES PWDS

The Municipal Chief executive of the West Akim, in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Hon Seth Oduro Boadu, has advised person with disabilities (PWDs) who received support from the Municipal Assembly, not sell the items given to them but rather to use it to ensure the well being of their families.




The MCE made the call when he presented start up tools and equipment to about 40 PWDs worth GH¢140,000.00 to support and boost themselves to enable them work and reduce poverty among them to improve their living standards and socio-economic status.

The items are included sewing machines, pepper grater, deep freezers, knitting machines, provisions, hair dryers, accessories, steel mini containers for shop etc. This is aimed at equipping them to earn better living despite their challenges.

Speaking to the gathering was, social welfare Director, Mr. Nsiah, said the items were to address specific needs of the beneficiaries and were presented according to what the beneficiaries requested.

He explained, the items were procured from the Municipality's share of the disability fund and said the Department of social welfare would conduct regular monitoring to ensure that the beneficiaries use the items for the purposes for which they were granted.


In this regard,the MCE advised the beneficiaries not to sell the items but to use them to enhance their business and living standards.

On their part, West Akim Municipal PWDs beneficiaries after receiving the items commended and the thanked the government to ensuring the well being of PWDs in the society and to contribute their quota to the national development.

They assured to take proper care of the items, invest them into productive ventures to help uplift their standards of living, describing it as a step which will create an enabling and inclusive society for the disabled.
