The National Democratic Congress' (NDC) call for the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies has been termed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a reflection of the party's lack of ideas to assist stabilise the economy.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) issued a threat on Tuesday, August 8, that it would march to the premises of the Bank of Ghana to take Dr. Addison and his deputies from office if they failed to quit within 21 days. This threat was made in response to what the NDC characterised as the reckless management of the bank by the officials.

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the NPP, recently gave an interview to Citi News in which he advised the public to dismiss the misinformation put out by the NDC.

"Is the NDC attempting to take control of the Bank of Ghana at this time? Is that the message that they want to relay to us, that the Bank of Ghana cannot make a decision until they have consulted the NDC? The entirety of what the NDC is doing is a distraction, and it is strong evidence that the NDC does not have a message. Regardless of which political party one supports, the most important message to convey at this time is "How do we make this recovery stronger? How do we make this recovery long term? How do we turn the curve and remain on a path to growth?"

The National Democratic Coalition has to hold another press conference on Wednesday since the one they just had was a mistake. They should call one another and inform Ghanaians their views in order to ensure that this economy continues to move forward, and that is where the conversation should go.

He went on to say that the losses of sixty billion Ghana cedis that were sustained by the Bank of Ghana during its fiscal year 2022 were not exclusive to Ghana, but rather were being experienced by other central banks across the world as well.

The National Democratic Coalition is aware that central banks around the world are reporting significant losses. An excessive amount of money is owing to the Bank of England, which is recorded as a debt on their books. A debt is also recorded against the Swiss bank; this is an occurrence that is occurring across the board. According to the Director of Communications for the NPP, this is owing to the fact that all economies are attempting to rebuild again due to COVID-19 and the war between Russia and Ukraine.
