Tinubu approves new salary structure for health workers

Fri, 28 Jul 2023 Source: SKATE NEWS

The Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for Health Professionals in the Federal Public Service will be undergoing an evaluation, which has been given the go-ahead by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Beginning on the first of June in 2023, the new compensation plan will go into force.

This information was communicated by Ekpo Nta, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, in a circular dated the 26th of July 2023, which was seen by the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday in Abuja.

Mr. Emmanuel Njoku, who serves as the Head of Information for the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, verified to the Nigerian Tribune that the circular was issued by the Commission.

Nta mentioned that the President's approval came as a direct result of the Commission's analysis of the Health Sector Salary Structures.

In addition to this, he said that President Tinubu had granted approval for an adjustment of the unique allowance by twenty-five percent for medical and dental practitioners working in hospitals, medical centres, and clinics that are part of the Federal Public Service.

Nta stated the following information in a separate circular: "The Federal Government has approved the payment of an Accoutrement Allowance of twenty-five thousand Naira (N25,000:00) per quarter to Medical and Dental Doctors in hospitals, medical centres, and clinics in the Federal Public Service."

While he was explaining that the approval will become effective on June 1st, 2023, he also mentioned that the allowance will be paid for out of the budget for overhead expenses.

As a result of the upward revision of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure for Health Professionals in the Federal Public Service, a health worker on Grade Level would earn N45,000 per year, but a health worker on Grade Level 15 would earn N6,315,091 per year.

The following is an excerpt from the circular that was distributed: "The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has approved the review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for Health Professionals in the Federal Public Service with effect from the 1st of June 2023."

"The updated compensation chart is included in this document as Annex I

"The National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission should be contacted with any questions that you may have regarding this circular."
