Hajia Bintu: Origin and meaning of popular Ghanaian TikToker’s moniker

Popular Ghanaian social media sensation Hajia Bintu, real name Naomi Asiamah recently sat with media personality Deloris Frimpong Manso to share details on how she came by her well-known stage name.

For years, followers keep wondering about the origin and meaning of the name,"Hajia Bintu".

In a recent interview on Delay TV's 'The Delay Show,' Hajia Bintu finally revealed the inspiration and story behind her moniker.

According to Hajia Bintu, a customer at Peduase where she worked as a waitress after SHS appreciated her beauty so much that he named her "Bintu," a name meaning "mother".

"It was giving to me by a certain customer while I was working as waitress at Peduase. The man said I’m beautiful and he would have called me Bintu if I was his wife," Hajia Bintu recalled.

She said she liked the name and adopted it as her own, modifying it by adding "Hajia".

"The Bintu means mother,” she explained to Delay, “I then added Hajia to make it my nickname.”

Both names combined, Hajia Bintu means, a Muslim mother who has been to Mecca.

For years, "Hajia Bintu" has captured imaginations as an iconic Ghanaian moniker with an unusual backside thrilling many fans, earning her a song named after her by popular reggae/dancehall star Shatta Wale.
