Following the recent revelation of stolen funds amounting to US$1 million, €300,000, and GHC350,000 from the private residence of former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, new details have emerged. Margaret Ansei, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication team, disclosed that it was Cecilia Dapaah's husband who stumbled upon the theft.

Known as "Magoo," the NDC member revealed during a panel discussion on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana on July 24, 2023, that the former minister's husband unexpectedly returned home from a meeting and caught the house helps in the act. The two helpers, Sarah and Patience, were found to be friends working together to pilfer from the family without their knowledge.

According to Magoo, Sarah Agyei had lived with Cecilia Dapaah and her husband, stealing money gradually to build a 3-bedroom house at Budunburam. After Sarah's departure, she recommended Patience Maabena Botwe to work for Cecilia Dapaah. Together, they continued to steal from the house until Cecilia Dapaah's husband discovered the theft when he returned home unannounced.

Magoo asserted that the pilfering had been ongoing for some time, allowing the helpers to accumulate enough to build a house. Until the moment Cecilia Dapaah's husband walked in on them, the family had no knowledge of the missing funds.

Meanwhile, Cecilia Dapaah has resigned from her position as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources due to public criticism surrounding the stolen monies. In her resignation letter addressed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, she stated that the issue could potentially affect the government negatively and decided to step down.

While denying that the reported figures of stolen funds were accurate, Cecilia Dapaah expressed her concern about the impact of the ongoing media reports and chose to resign to avoid further distractions to the government's crucial work.
