Gospel music is a calling for all gospel artists - Brother Ishmael

Ghanaian gospel musician Brother Ishmael, who is currently residing in the United States, has urged other gospel musicians to prioritize the ministry part of gospel music over its financial side.

Speaking to Kofy Jesse on the "Spotlight Show" on Kofy Jesse TV, the CMA Gospel Artist of the Year for CMA23 disclosed that a large portion of gospel music is a ministry and should be recognized as such since it is a calling from God.

Most gospel musicians experience discouragement and give up on their craft; others use their gift to perform secular music instead, as that is where the majority of the money is produced. Most of the investments spent in recording, mastering, performing, and promoting are undertaken with the goal of increasing profits.

Because of how much money they make once their music is released, the majority of gospel musicians also have trouble finding financiers to assist in the production of their music.

"For the Gospel fraternity, most people are made to believe there isn't money in it, but most Gospel musicians don't realize that this is a calling from God. God has called us to minister to lost souls through music."

In closing, he exhorted all gospel musicians to view their craft as "a God-Giving Gift" that must be carefully managed.

"I will encourage all gospel artists to do it and do it well because we have that gift and it is for a purpose."
