Government should Get Serious With Central Region On Tourism - Nana Obokese Laments
Regent for Moree who doubles as Apegyahene of the Asebu Traditional Area in the Central Region, Nana Obokese Ampah l has outspokenly noted that the time is now for the government of Ghana to take the Central Region serious with regards to tourism.
According to him, the Central Region having natural been endowed with numerous tourist attractions hence touted as the country's hub of tourism has for long been neglected by successive governments under the country's forth republic over committment to invest in the region's tourism potential for Ghana to harness its fruit thereof.
Nana Obokese remarked that the Central Region if 'deliberately' invested in, stands to become Ghana's bread basket when tourism is done right, as the entire country can economically depend solely on the region.
Speaking in an interview to *Sompa News Eric Annan*, he recounted that the country can only recoup of the region's tourism potential should government prioritize to enhance its underlining tourism conditions.
He bemoaned to be unacceptable on the path of government should tourists be allowed to trek on bumpy and single lane highways but yet expect the tourism industry to heftily contribute to the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
The chief and a tourism enthusiast highlighted that tour guides often resort to prayers when transporting tourists from one end to another over region's poor road network. Thus befits on the Central Region to have its highways dualized for tourists safety.
He further added that no serious tourism hub can afford to operate smoothly without tourists gaining easy access to an airport, hence passionately called on the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan and her government for an airport as promised initially.
The Central Regional Director for Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Kwame Gyasi over agitation for the construction of an airport and the dualization of the region's highways said will earnestly add to the growth of tourism in the Central Region as he relayed full support behind the call.
