Ladies in Mining and Allied Professions (LiMAP-Gh), UMaT Chapter has donated a cheque of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Project Committee of the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital.

The Tarkwa Municipal Hospital has begun the construction of an ultra-modern NICU for the hospital since the current one is too small to accommodate babies who would need that service.

A 13-member committee made up of Chiefs, health officials, artisans, the media, and others was put together to solicit funds to begin the construction of a new NICU with ancillary facilities.

According to the Chairman of the Committee, Nana Kwaku Twum,” the state of the unit needs the attention of everyone to save our little children, hence the need to throw invitation individuals, churches and organizations including LiMAP-Ghana to support”

The committee has so far cleared the land to enable the construction to start. Workers are on site currently molding the blocks for the project.

Making the presentation, the President of LiMAP Ghana, Prof Grace Ofori Sarpong said, “we are responding to the call of the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital to put up a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Inasmuch as LiMAP is a not-for-profit association, and we get monies through payment of dues from our members, we still see the call to save the precious lives of preterm babies to be dear to our hearts. We, therefore, placed a call to our members to contribute towards this worthy course. We are thankful to God that we have been able to raise Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC10,000.00) to support the project”.

According to, Prof Grace Ofori Sarpong the issue of neonates is dear to the hearts of members, therefore there was the need for members to contribute their quota towards ensuring that the project is completed in order to have a bigger place for babies and mothers who would need the service.

She gave the assurance that LiMAP Ghana will visit the hospital gain to support the project.

The Medical Superintendent for the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital thanked LiMAP Ghana for the kind gesture.

He called on other organizations to support the committee with cash and building materials in order to complete the project.
