The electoral commission is a failure to Ghana’s democracy, Obrempong Kofi Apraku (KTU TEIN Communications Officer).

Elections which involves all the electoral process is a feature of a democratic state which Ghana can also boost of, incompetence of the body that controls it is a clear failure to our democracy. It can be proven that the Electoral Commission has been trying to infringe the right to exercise your franchise.

Following it inability to organize assembly elections in some part of the country and not just some centers but almost 2 region’s. This can’t be backed by inconvenience but rather it is the incompetence of the commission which has made it so.

Starting from the registration of voters this year, the electoral commission did not go using the old method by registering the electorates at their electoral centers but this time had it registration done at the district office. This deprived many from getting registered which is not a good thing to write home about. So from this some people are already disenfranchised due to the electoral commission activity.

Assembly elections were to be held today 19 December, 2023 but due to the incompetency of the electoral commission with their head Madam Jean Mensah it has been rescheduled. It is never a mere say if the office of the electoral commission is tagged as incompetent. Yesterday from the speech from the office of the electoral commission it was stated that everything which will be needed for elections was ready and had already been moved to the various regions and districts.

This clearly shows how false the commission is, giving out false information is against the law of this country and so the electoral commission should be taken on. Electorates gathering at their various centers since 7am and to their surprise a message comes down that election has been postponed. It is obvious that the electoral commission is not ready to undertake this project and so much precautions should be taken ahead of next year’s general elections.

From this incidence it is likely that we will be experiencing low turn out in our various electoral centers. Following the information from the commission, the elections will be held on Thursday 21st December, 2023. If indeed elections is a feature of democratic then the Electoral Commission is a failure to our democracy.
