Affail Monney reveals main cause of Ghana’s decline on table of free media systems

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, he described as worrying, the rate at which perpetrators launch severe attacks on journalists without been dealt with.

“It is interesting to know that in this year’s press freedom report, impunity was identified as the main factor for Ghana’s decline on the league table of free media systems. Irrespective of their political affiliations or social status, perpetrators of attacks against journalists must be arrested,” he stated.

According to the GJA president, the inability to bring perpetrators to book creates an atmosphere to increase their activities.

“One thing about impunity is that if it’s not dealt with, it re-ignites and re-energizes perpetrators to do more. When this happens, it makes things difficult to deal with. Impunity also is responsible for the number of attacks on journalists,” he stated.

He has therefore challenged human activists and democracy lovers to help decapitate the canker of impunity in the country.
