Former President John Dramani Mahama has rubbished reports indicating that he has selected Professor Kwesi Botchwey as his running mate for the 2020 presidential election.
The Daily Graphic reported Monday that Prof Botchwey’s name came up for the appointment at a meeting and would be announced later.
The report also stated that key names such as Kwesi Ahwoi, Prof John Gatsi, Nii Okoi Dsane, Alex Mould are some of the names that have prominently come up for the running mate position.
But Mr Mahama’s Twitter handle reacted to the report and described it as “Fake News.”
“Fake news…The Daily Graphic report of the selection of a running mate is false,” Mr. Mahama wrote.
Prof Botchwey is Ghana’s longest-served Finance Minister and a member of the NDC.
He led the process of assessment of the party’s 2016 defeat.
This comes after Alex Mould, the former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation denied rejecting an offer from Mr. Mahama from partnering him for the 2020 elections.
