The Ghana Police Service has dismissed claims that a GHC50, 000 donation by a Chinese businessman will influence its fight against illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’.
The Chairman of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CAITEC Group, Tang Hong, made the donation to the Police Service but his gesture has received massive condemnation on social media with majority of Ghanaians saying the donation will influence how the Police deal with Chinese nationals who are involved in illegal mining.
The concerns come after several Chinese nationals have been arrested recently for their involvement in illegal mining in some parts of the country.
But the Police administration in a statement said the donation towards the construction of the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) will not affect its work.
According to the statement signed by Director of Public Affairs, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, Mr. Tang Hang has on two occasions donated motorbikes to the Police in the past and that has not influenced their work in any way.
