University of Ghana (UG) has maintained its unbeaten run in the 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games by piping Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) 54-53 in an enthralling contest this morning at the UG main court.
A buzzer-beating three-point shot was not enough for KNUST to force overtime and the team recorded its second loss in the competition.
KNUST led throughout the contest but UG tied the game at 49 with 38 seconds remaining in the final quarter largely thanks to a five-point scoring run from Guard Treasure Botchwey.
Kumasi based KNUST led 40-33 at the end of the third quarter and Center Jojo Kitson scored a short jump shot inside the paint to extend the lead.
However, costly turnovers late in the game and clutch shooting from the free-throw line put UG in the lead and the two-time defending champions did just enough to see out the win.
UG plays close rival University of Cape Coast (UCC) at 15:00 GMT on Friday, January 17 at the same venue.
