The first daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has admitted to the turbulent times in the country, blaming it on fierce economic hardship.
The Korle Klottey constituency lawmaker admitted that things are not as rosy as one would have thought, adding that those who voted in favour of the current administration are lamenting themselves.
In an interview with the press, she indicated that the current economic hardship in the country is not what she anticipated though her party is not at the helm of affairs.
“The things I didn’t expect was to see things become as difficult for every Ghanaian as they are now”, she stated in the interview monitored by MyNewsgh.com.
In her estimation, it was within the rights of the citizenry to decide who and which political party they want to superintend over affairs of the country but current happenings, coupled with the hardship many are experiencing now, has left them disappointed.
“The whole idea of having elections and democracy is for people to choose whom they prefer governing the state but I don’t think even those who overwhelmly voted in favour of expected things to be as bad as they are today”, she stressed.
It would be recalled that, President Nana Akufo-Addo, last month admitted the country is in difficult times but not in crises as his political opponents seek to suggest.
Addressing the Ghanaian Community in New York, USA during his visit, President Akufo-Addo attributed the difficulties in the system to the “dramatic increase in crude oil prices” and the strengthening of the US dollar.
He blamed the significant and rapid depreciation of the cedi for the difficulty adding that the Bank of Ghana is working round the clock to change the situation in order to inure to the benefit of the citizenry
“We have to approach the foreign exchange matter medium to long-term by expanding our supply base, that’s not a crisis...they’re difficulties the system would be able to accommodate...It’s a difficult situation, but a difficult situation also require some amount of fortitude and firm action and that’s what we are trying to do at home,” he said.
