Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, Kofi Bentil has clarified that he was only presenting what he believed were facts about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia before his address to Ghanaians.
According to him, the facts he presented about Dr. Bawumia are verifiable.
Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, February 10, Mr. Bentil emphasised the importance of putting out facts and stated that convincing people is a different matter.
His comments come in response to a statement he made about Dr. Bawumia ahead of his address to the nation on Wednesday, February 7, endorsing him as the best Vice President ever and highlighting his non-corrupt nature and effectiveness in delivering crucial transformations.
Despite disagreements from some individuals, Mr. Bentil clarified “I just hoped to put out what I believed are facts” about the Vice President.
He clarified that his endorsement of the New Patriotic Party's flagbearer is a personal conviction and not reflective of IMANI-Africa's position.
“This is not IMANI, I’m an individual, I run my own business, I’m a lawyer, a father and many things apart from being senior vice president of IMANI so I have my personal convictions. This is not IMANI so please stop that argument,” he stressed.
He explained that IMANI-Africa has not released a statement declaring their endorsement of the Vice President, thus they only issue statements when they have specific information or perspectives to communicate.
“We have a website, we do publications, we have presentations - we don’t have a problem speaking and owning up to the things we say regardless of how controversial or difficult they are.”
“IMANI hasn’t come to tell you that this is theirs so if you want to pick it as IMANI, the point is this is me and I have the permission of my brothers in IMANI and the board,” Mr Bentil said.
He stressed that IMANI-Africa does not engage in endorsing political candidates but focuses on their designated tasks.
